OUR STORY

Modern Accord Depot, a passion project of Choreographer Chase Brock and Conductor Rob Berman is a 2019 reimagining of this historic structure.

Our approach to this renovation included the careful preservation of many vintage elements including the original entry dormer and ornament, the clapboard siding, the waiting room doors (no longer in use) and hardware, the ticket window, the barn door leading into the freight room, the ceiling beams and steel rafter ties in the freight room, and even a 1940s caboose, placed in the side yard by the previous owner, where it now rests on 100 feet of railroad track just a few feet from where the original track ran.

In addition, we reinvented a number of original elements including bumping out a section of the ticket office to allow for a dynamic new front entry, shifting a section of the waiting room benches into a more modern diagonal position and inserting a new oversize folding glass door between them, utilizing salvaged boards from a hallway to create a new barn door highlighting 120-year-old graffiti, lowering the station agent’s desk to create a generous entry bench in the foyer and transforming the station agent’s bedroom into a luxurious primary bedroom with custom king-size bed and built-in desk and storage.

Finally, we added some altogether new elements including a modern, double height glass addition housing a contemporary staircase with colorful built-in shelves and sitting area below, a full modern kitchen with Smeg appliances and a custom kitchen table designed by the architect, an open and airy studio complete with mirrors and sprung Marley floor, and a bold bunk room inspired by train sleeper cars, featuring six private sleeping pods in an iconic design.

Throughout the space, you’ll find NYO&W artifacts and photographs, including a prominent photo of Mike Palmer at his desk (now the entry bench) in the ticket office (now the foyer).
