When choreographer Chase Brock and his husband, musician Rob Berman, first purchased a weekend home in Ulster County, New York, nearly 10 years ago, they immediately noticed a beautiful, turn-of-the-century train depot in the neighboring town of Accord.
A Space for Black Dance Artists to Create in the Hudson Valley
On Friday, New Dance Alliance announced the start of its Black Artists Space to Create Residency, a pilot program that will give recipients the chance to spend two weeks at Modern Accord Depot in Accord, N.Y., in the Hudson Valley, where they will enjoy unlimited access to a dance studio and a quiet, comfortable living space.

Although renowned Broadway choreographer Chase Brock and his musician husband Rob Berman had long been enamored of Accord's turn-of-the-century train depot, when it went on the market in 2017 they hadn't planned on buying it. "Like all artists do whenever they see an old building, we'd thought, 'I wonder if there's enough space in there to make into a studio'," says Brock about the historic structure, which the couple recently remade into a dance studio/residential retreat and B&B called Modern Accord Depot.
